Picture it; you’re in a pristine setting at 5,000 feet just east of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area in Washington's Central Cascades. Where I’m talking about is Scottish Lakes High Camp in the Chiwaukum Mountains. The only access is via an 8-mile private road, using 4-wheel drive vehicles in the fall and snowcats and snowmobiles during the winter.
WINTER SKIING
Friday April 4, 2008
Start: 4:00 am
Mt. Bachelor, outside of Bend, Oregon, boasts over 3,683 acres accessible by lift (1,600 acres groomed daily) and 71 named runs. With a base elevation of 6,300 and a summit chair that reaches to over 9,600 feet, Mt Bachelor quickly lifts you above the trees for some breathtaking views of the high dessert. In addition, the summit chair allows you to ski THROUGH a volcanic caldera!
