Salmon Ridge XC Trip Report

Tim B and I had a good time at Salmon Ridge Snopark on Sunday. The weather was very nice with blue skies and good visability of the surrounding terrain. We skiied through forest and along the Nooksack river. We heard the sound of happy birds. And, we were greeted by only a few fellow enthusiasts on the trail. We skiied groomed and ungroomed areas. We had a really good time. Wish you were there to enjoy it with us. Join us this coming Sunday, won't ya? ---Rico.

We also had some nice vistas

We also had some nice vistas of Goat Mountain and Nooksack Tower along the way, and if the back section of the trail system had been groomed or tramped down a little more we would have had some even better views I think. We ended up at a nice restaurant in Glacier with a surprisingly good selection of imports and microbrews on tap (Grahams). WA is so civilized that way. I think the lack of crowds had a lot to do with the lack of grooming. One long stretch was groomed for a clinic they had taught that morning, but the rest of the system hadn't been groomed in over a week. The two undgroomed sections we skied were easy to negotiate though - having been tramped down by snowshoes and a few skiers before us. I'm beginning to think that the track skis are just fine for most ungroomed roads and trails.
