Scottish Lakes 2008

Everyone arrived to Scottish Lakes High Camp either by snowmobile or made the trek on skis on that snowy Friday. After everyone settled into their respective cabins, got fires going to heat them up, the wine & cheese party began. Elaine worked with Whole Foods to yet again come up with a great pairing of wine & cheeses. We had people from not only Ski Buddies but from Out Ventures and even a signup from Women Climbers Northwest. It was a great balance of men, women, trip veterans and newbies to Scottish Lakes. As the party went on so did the snow fall.

The next day it was sunny and the views were spectacular. It had snowed all night so we were able to play in new inches of fresh powder. Everyone scattered to find their peace of winter paradise. Scottish Lakes has an elaborate 35 mile network of ski trails from advanced to beginners. The maximum elevation is 7,300 feet. After having a great day of exercise and fresh air, people made use of the wood fired hot tub. Then came the potluck. We had less people than last year and could swear there was more food! It just kept coming and coming and all of it was delicious. No lack of carbs here.

The night sky was clear and the stars were out, some folks took advantage and did a moonlight snowshoe walk.

Sunday was again a beautiful sunny day and it was time to say goodbye. People left at different times of the day, some took the snowmobile down and other chose to ski out. Those of us that left later in the afternoon got a last chance to ski/board on snow that was like butter. Even the road down to the mid-mountain pick-up spot was a blast to ski down.

Elaine and I have had a great time leading and going on this trip and the past Scottish Lakes trips. It's a great, satisfying feeling when everyone has enjoyed themsleves so much. Don & Chris Hanson, the owners of Scottish Lakes said "Your group are the nicest people, great to work with". Here's a quote from first time trip goers, David Carlin and Michael Calhoun "We had such a blast this weekend! What a beautiful place - and we couldn't have asked for better snow! Thanks again for hosting!"
