49 DEGREES NORTH - Feb 12-15

02/12/2010

Come join Ski Buddies for a long weekend of downhill skiing/snowboarding over the President’s Day holiday in beautiful Eastern Washington. We will be staying in Newport, WA (about an hour north of Spokane, located on the serene Pend Oreille River and the Idaho border) with two days of skiing/riding at 49° North – one of Washington’s best undiscovered ski hills! If you like skiing and riding at uncrowded places like Mission Ridge and Bluewood, then this is the trip for you!

The ski area is a generous 2,325 acres, with an average annual snowfall of over 300 inches! There are 68 marked trails, and the base elevation of the ski area is 3,923 feet, a summit elevation of 5,774 feet, giving a generous vertical drop of 1,851 feet! There is 1 quad and 4 double chairs and an excellent variety of terrain to choose from on three sides of Chewelah Peak. The ski area is about 45 minutes from downtown Newport.

We will arrive in Newport on Friday, February 12, and depart on Monday, February 15, enjoying two days of fabulous Eastern Washington snow! This will be a drive trip, so transportation costs are not included - the trip leader will be coordinating carpooling. It is approximately 6 hours, weather permitting, to reach Newport from Seattle.

Please come to the first potluck for final pricing! The trip will include three nights accommodation, up to two days of lift tickets at 49° North, and a Saturday evening apres-ski in Newport. For those who are interested, Schweitzer Mountain is approximately an hour and half in Sandpoint, ID for anyone wishing to do one day at 49° North and one day at Schweitzer Mountain. Group lift tickets will be for 1 or 2 days at 49° North only.
